Oh my it’s a beautiful thing.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m sure everybody is curious as to how it sounds since it does use a larger displacement engine and all. But who knows how long it will be until it hits it’s first public track test?

For now here’s a sound clip of CORE Autosport’s two MY15 RSRs as they pound out a few hot laps during Quali at Mosport. The forest lining both the entry and exit of Moss really amplify the exhaust note of these cars, and since 5b is the highest point of this complex the audio is directed pretty well towards the spectators. I can’t wait to hear this thing in person.

(the MY16 car sounded nearly identical from what I can recall being trackside).

BONUS: out of curiousity, how different does a RSR sound compared to many, many GT3 Cups?

It’s a dumb idea which has the potential to kill GTE.

Porsche just completely changed the standard for what manufacturers are allowed to change when building their GTE cars. Now you can basically do whatever you want to the chassis and layout, regardless of the layout of the car you start with. As manufacturers become more aggressive about how they modify their cars costs are going to skyrocket until it is unsustainable. Unless something is done to stop this you are going to end up with silhouette cars and the class is going to collapse.

They sound like this. Really angry with a whole lotta transmission noise.

The new RSR is mid-engined to take full advantage of GTE class rules. GTE cars are getting closer to prototype racers.

Doing a bit of quick reading on endurance racing in the past (namely Le Mans races), is this basically what happened to the old GT1 class? Hyper-developed cars with only loose ties to road-going versions; despite homologation rules, they were racecars made street-legal when it should have been the other way around.

Yup, this is exactly what happened to that iteration of GT1.
